‘Rabbit’ style vibrators, with the exception of the Miss BI, don’t really do anything for me. I’d love them to, since I like to combine both penetration and clitoral stimulation, but finding a ‘rabbit’ vibrator that fits my body is like finding a unicycle riding unicorn – so, yep, damn near impossible. For this reason, the shape of the O Venus really interested me. Mostly it was the clitoral arm. Clitoral orgasms are by far my favourite orgasms and the thought of having my clitoris surrounded by vibrations was just something I couldn’t refuse.
The O Venus is made from ABS plastic and silicone. The plastic is white and the silicone is a baby pink colour. Although I’m not a huge fan of the colour, I do appreciate the overall colour combination; it makes the vibrator seem really clean – Is that a strange thing to say about a vibrator? – The silicone is completely unforgiving; there’s absolutely no give to the insertable side at all. But despite the silicone being unforgiving, it is incredibly smooth. I can’t help but run my hands over it whenever it’s in my vicinity.
As for the shape of the O Venus, the insertable part has a slight curve which is supposedly good for G-spot stimulation. It also reminded me slightly of the curve and the shape of the tip of the Lelo Mona. And then the clitoral arm, depending on the direction you look at it from, can somewhat resemble a claw – you know, a mini claw from those arcade machines where you have to try to grab a stuffed toy. The handle has a slight bend on it, with the controls on the inside to make it ambidextrous. Well, not the toy, but it makes it so that it’s easy to use for both left and right handed people.
This dual vibrator is rechargeable and a USB charging cable is provided. Sadly, it doesn’t include an adapter, if you’d rather charge it by the mains; these, however, are readily available in most places and are incredibly cheap to pick up. To charge, simply push the charging pin into the charging hold on the handle. While charging, a red light will be displayed. Once your device is fully charged, the light will turn off. It takes approximately 90 minutes for it to fully charge and it will give you around 40 minutes of play time. I have to admit I find that only 40 minutes of play time is rather disappointing and, depending on your play time, you could find yourself charging this after each use.
Another disappointing thing in regards to the charging is that it doesn’t hold its charge at all. After a couple of days, if unused, your toy will be completely dead. For me, this is a massive pain as sometimes I like to charge toys up ready for the weekend, or I charge them up when I’m able to so that they’re ready to play with later. I found that for the best results it’s much better to charge this up earlier/the day before use, which means planning – I don’t know about anyone else but I certainly don’t plan when I’m about to masturbate, so it’s a bit of a passion killer when you go to grab it and it’s not got any charge.
The on/off button is on the back of the handle; hold this in for a few seconds to switch on. Continually press the button to switch through the settings – of which there are 10 – and then hold in the button to switch it off. I have to admit, 10 vibrational speeds on a single button is a massive pain. It means if I accidentally go past the setting that I want, I have to go through them all to get back to it or turn the device on and off again. The O Venus has two powerful-ish dual motors, which is great. However, they’re also controlled by the single button, meaning you can’t change the settings on one without changing the settings on another. I do feel that the ability to control each motor separately would have been a much better option. While the device is incredibly easy to use, I feel as though this really lets the toy down.
So, initially, when I got this vibrator I was tempted by the interesting, unusual shape – which I really do like the design of. I also said earlier that I love the look and feel of the ABS plastic with the silicone. However, while, yes, this is aesthetically pleasing, it’s not very practical in use. The ABS plastic is, well, plastic, meaning that it’s rigid and can’t be manipulated or manoeuvred to work with my body. I had such a hard time even trying to get this to work for my body type that it was practically impossible. By that I mean: I managed to insert it just one time. I had to contort my body, push my hips back, have a leg up the wall and basically rock back and forth until it would fit. It was incredibly uncomfortable and highly frustrating.
I really like the design but the material just didn’t work for me at all. If the toy was more adaptable then maybe it would have done something, but tragically it just wasn’t the case. I was able to use the insertable part on my clitoris and, after a while, I was able to achieve an orgasm – so there’s that, but that’s not what the toy is designed for.
Tragically, the O Venus went in the direction that most rabbit vibrators seem to take for me: it didn’t fit my anatomy at all. Maybe if they remade it with a less rigid material it would be much better but, as it stands, I’m not able to recommend it. Which is a shame because I really wanted to like it.
