It’s been a long time since I was excited about some bondage gear on Lovehoney. While they have a rather large selection, I really wanted something with a little more OOMPH and I’d almost gave up on expecting anything, until the DOMINX Deluxe Rubber whip with metal handle arrived on the scene. I was aimlessly browsing through twitter one day, when I noticed that one of the people I followed had their eyes on this new flogger. Expecting it to be ‘meh’, I unenthusiastically clicked on the link. Needless to say, I was pretty damn surprised when I instantly felt the need to have it and added it to my Lovehoney wish list. It instantly reminded me of the DOMINIX Deluxe PVC flogger, that I loved so much but had sadly been discontinued. This one, however, looked far more stylish with its metal handle.
There wasn’t really much packaging for this. It was just wrapped up in a clear bag that keeps it safe from dust and other things in storage and transport. Upon removing the flogger from the bag, I was hit by a rather unpleasant smell, somewhat rubbery and incredibly strong. I have a thing about smells: if they’re unpleasant, I can’t be around them at all and I had no desire to be around this. So, instead of doing what I’d normally do with a new flogger and test it out on myself before getting my bondage partner involved, I had to leave it to air out and hoped that the smell would soon disappear now that it was no longer confined to a bag. Opening the bedroom window, I hung the flogger by the handle on my curtain rail and left it there, not only to get the airing out it so desperately needed, but I also hoped that some of the kinks in the fronds would fall out now that it was no longer bent in the packaging. Thankfully, I have blinds so I was able to angle these accordingly so my whip wasn’t put on display for the entire cul-de-sac while it was left chilling in my window.
Thankfully, on returning to the flogger several hours later, it was clear that the smell had gone. There was still a lingering rubbery smell, but it wasn’t as powerful as before, and so, was far more pleasant than it’d originally been. I was also happy to see that some of the fronds had somewhat straightened out. When not in use, this flogger spends its time hung up in my wardrobe; due to this, the fronds are no longer bent! So if, like me, you like your fronds straight, hanging it up between uses will get rid of the kinks (but only the kinks in the fronds. Not any other, more pleasurable kind).
I found that I needed a lot of practice with this, as it can be quite deceiving when delivering a blow. As this is whipped through the air, the whooshing sound it makes can be quite menacing (as well as incredible), and it can sound like it’s going to do a lot more damage than it actually does, or vice versa. I’d advise giving this a little practise and getting used to the wrist movements needed for each strike.
I really love the feeling of this in my hands. The flogger is well balanced with the metal handle – the perfect counter to the 42 rubber fronds – making it incredibly comfortable to both hold and wield. I mentioned earlier about how the sound of this can be deceiving; while it can be, I also love it. The intensity of sound it makes is unlike any of the other floggers that I have in my arsenal, and just listening to it sends shivers of anticipation around my body. The moment I hear the whooshing-sound in the air, my body physically braces for impact.
One of the things I love most about this flogger is the different sensations that can be produced. While, primarily, it is a flogger, it’s also so much more. Because of the rubbery fronds, you can use this particular flogger in sensory play. It can be used in temperature play by dipping them in iced cold water or in warm water. You can then drag them over your partners’ body, delivering both temperature sensations as well as tingling sensations, caused by simply dragging the fronds across the skin. I personally enjoy this being lightly dragged over my shoulder blade, across my chest and over my nipples. I like to add in a blindfold and some restraints because it, not only brings pain but, also, has the ability to bring in a lot of pleasure. I like to be surprised.
This flogger does have a lot of bite to it when used at full force. And, you have the ability to really tease your partner, using it gently and dragging it across the body before delivering a stinging blow. The whooshing-sound it makes as it’s swung through the air, will leave you giddy in anticipation for the blow, but that is nothing compared to the whacking sound it makes as it impacts the skin – and leaves a very red arse behind.
After a session with this, I found I enjoyed the handle being rolled over my skin. It felt incredibly soothing on my rather raw backside.
I wouldn’t say this is a beginner flogger and I do advise practising with this before using it on your partner. It can take a bit of time to get used to how much force is needed for each blow but, with enough practice, you can really get a range of sensations from the Goliath – from pleasurable and mild, to intense and stinging. Make sure you know how much pain your partner wants, though, as this really does give out a painful (fantastic) sting.
I love a good flogger, both wielding it and being on the receiving end of it. And this just isn’t a good flogger, it’s a great one. With practice, this flogger has the ability to deal, not only, a beautifully painful experience, but it can also be incredibly sensual and soothing. It’s incredibly versatile and has won me over. At a price of £29.99 (at the time of writing this), it’s well worth its price tag and is an investment worth making.
