Ever since I first laid eyes upon the Doxy Don, I wanted one. My hopes for this vibrator were high, I mean, they’d have to be. I’m a massive fan of the Doxy Wand and DIECAST. Made from 100% silicone, the Don is an improvement on the original Doxy. I have to admit that, when I first laid eyes upon the Don, I thought it looked more than a little weird. I wasn’t exactly sure of what to do with it, other than anal – it really does look like an anal toy. I had this confirmed by my OH when I asked him what he thought it was for.
As it turns out, the Don isn’t just for anal, it’s for all other things too. You can use for it dual stimulation, clitoral stimulation, anal and massage. It’s an all-rounder toy that’s powerful. Excited? So was I.
As I’ve mentioned, I’m a rather big fan of the Doxy. I’m such a fan of the Doxy wand, I do believe one should come with every house; it’s as essential as a fridge. I love the power of it. It’s strong and rumbling, for me, the perfect power combination. I expected this in the Don, I imagined wand-like power on a smaller, pin-point scale. I expected that I would love the Don, that I would exclaim, “Move over Doxy, you’ve been replaced by the Don,” however, I wouldn’t banish the wand just yet. The Don wasn’t at all what I imagined.
On first impressions, I was more than a little disappointed with the packaging of the Don. I know, I know, packaging isn’t everything, however, I was initially impressed with the Doxy Wand packaging. With the Don, I was left wanting. Yes, the packaging has some strong points – it’s gender neutral, for one thing – but it looks cheap and, thus, manages to make the toy look cheap, too.
Using the Don is easy: simply plug it in to a plug socket and use the controller. I have to admit, I do like the controller. It’s far enough down the wire that, when the Don is inserted, you can easily use the controls. It’s also far enough up the wire that you can be quite a distance away from the wall. The placement, for me, at least, is pretty perfect. The buttons on the controller are easy to read and use – this is a huge plus for me. I wear glasses and sometimes find that I can’t read/see certain controls on some sex toys. I did not have this issue with the Doxy Don as, even without my specs on, I knew where everything was.
The Don is supposed to be an all-rounder toy. You can use it for external stimulation – i.e. massage, clitoral and nipple play – and you can also use it for internal stimulation, both vaginally and anally. Using the toy for massage actually felt really nice. I found that it got in to those hard to reach areas perfectly. The tip of the shaft felt fantastic for pin point massage, getting under my shoulder blades and sore points on my back. For clitoral play, I found the toy lacking. Even though it is quite powerful, it still felt like it was missing a setting (or two). I expected that I would reach orgasm from this quite quickly, however, that wasn’t the case. I found that I’d constantly hit the remote to try and make the settings higher. It actually took a lot longer to reach orgasm. The vibrations, although rumbling still sometimes felt buzzy. They just didn’t always hit the spot. If the vibrations had been slightly more powerful, it would have made it a perfect clitoral toy for me.
So, clitoral play wasn’t a huge hit with me. I was hoping that the dual stimulation would help make this toy as amazing as I wanted it would be. It looked perfect! It looked like the tiny nib should sit on my clitoris perfectly whilst the shaft was inside me. However, it didn’t turn out like that. The shaft wasn’t nearly long enough or girthy enough to really do anything for me internally, and the nib that’s supposed to sit on your clitoris didn’t go anywhere near mine. I tried to get it to go there, I contorted my body, I put my leg up against the wall, put a pillow under my bum. My OH tried to angle it in several different ways, but it just didn’t want to get there. I did manage to get it to hit my clit on occasions by thrusting the toy in an angled position, however, this just made the shaft even less noticeable inside me than it had previously been. The vibrations also didn’t travel well. I wasn’t overly keen on the vibrations coming from the shaft, and any vibrations that I felt from the nib were a smaller percentage of the shaft ones. So, in theory, it looked great, but in practice it did nothing for me.
Sadly, it didn’t really do anything for my OH either. He enjoyed the vibrations externally but realised that he wasn’t overly keen on internal vibrations. He found that the shaft was lacking in shape, girth and length to really do anything for him.
