I was recently contacted to review a couple of items from the Durex sex toy line; I’ve never used a Durex sex toy before, I’ve had experience with their condoms, and I’ve had a few run ins with their lubricants, but never have I used one of their sex toys.
I was asked to select a couple of their toys, in exchange for an honest review. ‘perfect’ I thought, I’d be able to try out a brand of sex toys that I’ve not yet tried.
Delivery was really quick, I had both items within the week. And the packaging was simple and discreet. So far so good.
The two items I selected to review are – ‘Durex Sensual Bliss‘ and ‘Durex Pure Bliss‘ both of these toys retail at a price of £49.99 (At the time of writing this) Due to both items being rather similar, as in made from the same material; vibrations seem on par and the packaging is a like; I’m going to review both items in this same post.
I don’t know what I expected with the packaging but it wasn’t what I received, It’s A LOT better than what I originally thought it would be; and actually looks rather elegant. The outer box has a description of the vibrators and pictures. You are able to throw this box away, as inside there is a sleek black box which is perfect for keeping the vibes stored when not in use, and keeping prying eyes away. The inner box is also very discreet , as in it doesn’t have any identifiable features to say this is a sex toy. Inside the black box you’ll find your new toy neatly nestled in black foam, a storage bag, instructions and also your USB charging cable. It doesn’t come with a USB to wall plug converter, however that’s not a huge issue as these can be picked up in most stores for just a couple of pounds (And the likeliness is you’ve probably already got one laying around the house somewhere!)
As both of these toys are rechargeable they’re only splash-proof which in my opinion is a major flaw, you’d expect most vibrators now to be water proof, but alas this is not the case – This makes clean up a little bit more tricky as you obviously can’t just submerge your toy and give it a good clean. You will have to use toy cleaner and give it a wipe down. Also there are a few seams, so you have to make sure to get in-between those when cleaning as some gunk may linger!
Charging is simple, just plug it in to your USB and away it goes; I’d like to be able to tell you how long it takes to charge, but honestly; I have no idea! I put these on charge at about 11pm, a red light came on, which I assumed was to let me know that the device was charging. The red light was still on at 7am so I simply don’t know, surely it doesn’t take 8 hours to charge them. The instructions advise that it takes two hours to charge and this will give you one hour of play time. So maybe the light just comes on to show you that you’ve actually put it on charge? But it doesn’t let you know when they’re ready to be taken off, which seems pretty pointless to me.
Both of the vibes come with 3 continuous vibration speeds and 4 patterned settings. To switch on press and hold the + button for three seconds – To switch between the vibration speeds and settings you press + and pressing – will take you back to the previous one. To switch off you press and hold in – for three seconds.
The look and feel of these is great, they’re made from silky smooth silicone and ABS plastic, making them body safe. And overall they just look quite pretty!
All that is well and good, but how do they perform?
OK, so let’s talk about the Durex Sensual Bliss; it’s appearance reminds me of a space ship, not going to lie, it’s one of the reasons I chose this item to be sent to me. I loved the shape of it, with the two buttons at the top; it fits snugly into the palm of your hand. I don’t really have any toys like this, so I was excited to give it a try.
I wish I was able to like this, I just didn’t. I love the shape, the material it’s made with – It feels so comfortable to hold, but the vibrations are too weak for me; I barely noticed them on its highest setting, which is a shame.
This item retails at £49.99 which honestly, I think is quite high – the quality of the item is great, however its performance lets it down so much. You can’t really notice the difference in the three vibrations (Apart from the sound) the vibrations are buzzy and seem to vibrate everywhere else apart from where you’re directing it. No matter the angle I used, I wasn’t able to get anywhere near an orgasm from this.
Next we have the Durex Pure Bliss, the initial shape again is what lured me to this massager, I loved the sleek design, and I also loved that the tip had a plastic cover on it for when it wasn’t in use! We all know that silicone attracts anything and everything it comes in to contact with; so I thought that this was a great idea.
Honestly I don’t know why this toy isn’t water proof, the way it’s designed it could easily be – I think Durex missed out on a huge feature here.
I had the same problems with the Pure Bliss that I had with the sensual bliss, that being that the vibrations seemed pretty much nonexistent. There seems to be a lot more power in this than the Sensual Bliss, but honestly I think that’s down to the shape of the vibe. Although this is more targeted, it just doesn’t have enough power behind it to make me get anywhere near an orgasm with it. And again – although I really do like the design of this, I think the RRP of £49.99 is far too expensive for what it actually delivers.
So although Durex ticked most of the boxes, the materials used are great, the design is nice; Packaging is lovely – The vibrations just aren’t great at all.
The Durex Pure Bliss and Durex Sensual Bliss were sent to me in exchange for an honest review by Durex.
