If you haven’t heard of Fifty Shades of Grey (FSOG), then I’d love to know where you’ve been hiding – it has been literally everywhere – even if you haven’t read the books, it’s been pretty hard to miss.
FSOG has for a while now came out with a line of sex toys, I was recently asked by Belle De Soir to try one of their FSOG items and since I love glass; and I did not have this particular glass dildo I decided to give it a try.
I have to say, even though I’m not the biggest fan of the range, yes I love a few of the items in it; but generally I haven’t loved them all; I do love the packaging. I especially love the packaging for this glass dildo; it is lovely and would make the perfect gift for someone who either loves glass dildos or for someone who is a fan of the books.
The outside of the packaging is consistent with the rest of the range it has details of the item; the Iconic ‘tie’ picture that is on some of the books and a quote from the book too. It’s a shiny black and does look pretty. The best part is the lovely gift box that comes inside. I’ve not come across this gift box with any of the other items; so it was a nice surprise. I would have preferred the dildo to be laid upon something other than the plastic it comes in as I do feel it lets down the pretty box.
The box is black and has ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ in silver on the pull up lid. Inside the box you’ll find the dildo displayed in a plastic protective ‘holder’ and underneath a storage bag and instructions on how to use your glass wand.
As far as glass dildos go it is rather plain – yet still lovely to look at, made from clear glass; it comprises of a curved shaft which is great for G-spot stimulation and it has raised nodules on the inside of the curve. The inside of the dildo has a length of approximately 7.5 inches with the outside having an approximate length of 8 inches.
As with a lot of glass one of the good things about them is most can be used either side, this is no different. You can use either the bulbous end or the tapered tip end; both ends have a circumference of 4.3 inches with the shaft having a circumference of 3.4 inches.
Although it’s clear (Generally I like a lot more colour in glass dildos) I do actually like it, it feels really nice. I prefer to use the double bulbous end rather than the single slightly tipped end; although they’re both the same circumference I for some reason still do feel ‘fuller’ using this end.
The nodules are also fantastic, not only do they feel amazing when massaging your vagina; they feel exceptional when massaging your clitoris.
However I do have a few problems with it;
Firstly the inscription – on the double bulbous end of the dildo ‘Fifty shades of grey’ is embedded on there in white. I questioned the manufacture of the Fifty Shades of Grey collection and I was advised that the logo is ‘screen printed’ and put on to the dildo via a machine and that the logo shouldn’t scratch off. However the logo on my dildo does scratch off – Not a huge amount, it doesn’t have any effect on the writing; you can still clearly see Fifty Shades of Grey on the glass, however my concern is what it is that is going in to the body when in use – Though it shouldn’t really flake off in the body, I used my nail to scratch the logo slightly and as you can see by the picture below you can see some of the flakes coming off it. I would then recommend fully cleaning it prior to use; and drying it afterwards to ensure there aren’t any flakes on there.
My other issue with this dildo is I already own it, well I don’t own the Fifty Shades of Grey – Drive me Crazy dildo (apart from well this one) but I do own the Tracey Cox Supersex Glass dildo set, which is pretty much the exact same dildo, just in pink. I say pretty much because the sizing is just out, the pink has 1mm more girth, and that is really the only difference I could find between the two. So if you already have the Tracey Cox glass dildo set there is very little point in purchasing this item, unless of course you’re a huge fan of the range / books and you want to complete the set.
Regardless of the Issues though this is a great dildo, it really does feel amazing when used – and as I said the packaging is beautiful (I wish it was used consistently throughout the whole range) so it would make the perfect gift for someone who wishes to try glass, or a fan of the FSOG range or books.
