I was recently sent two bondage items from Sextoys.co.uk since both of the items are from the Sex & Mischief brand I decided to review them both together. I was sent the heart impression riding crop, and the beaded flogger.
On both items the packaging is rather minimalistic, in fact; it doesn’t really exist. The beaded flogger has a card with the brand logo on, a picture of a half naked woman and details of the item. The riding crop comes attached to a large piece of cardboard with essentially the same thing; the logo, a picture of a half naked woman and information about the item.
Both items are quite small, I wanted this – during some situations it’s easier to use a smaller flogger/crop as the larger items are just impossible to wield in certain angles.
So let’s look at the flogger first: It looks rather tame – it has 44 rubber falls that measure 7 inches in length, 4 wooden beads and a faux leather wrist strap.
In use it wasn’t really anything to boast about, it delivers a sting, but nothing really intense. Honestly I can achieve a harsher sting using my hand. The beaded handle, although it looks quite nice is a bit of a pain; if you make the mistake of using it as a handle, this can cause the beads to move, which will then pinch your skin. So it’s far easier to use the wrist strap as the handle and using the wrist strap also yields better results in terms of pain received.
I do really enjoy the rubber falls; since I am able to incorporate temperature play – it’s no surprise that I enjoy pain, so this flogger isn’t really used for dishing that out. However I have found that I really enjoy it in a foreplay setting. You’re able to dip the falls in either cold/warm water or even put half in cold and half in warm – when dragging them across the body the sensations received are amazing – even better when dragged across your Vulva or breasts. Due to the material, it does make it rather easy to clean as you can just wash the falls, and wipe down the handle. I wouldn’t recommend putting it all in water though, as the handle seems to have ripe beneath the beads.
Since it isn’t painful at all when used, I found that I also really like it to be used on my nipples; with it being glided across them or even used on them.
For the price £11.95 it isn’t really that bad – It seems quite well made, none of the fronds have come out and it does deliver a small sting. I do really enjoy it for foreplay purposes. If you’re looking for a flogger for anything more than that I’d suggest you spend a little more for something that is larger and of better quality.
We then have the Sex & Mischief heart riding crop, as with the flogger I wanted a smaller riding crop than the standard sized ones that I have. Ideally I wanted it for clitoral play, I do like to have a riding crop rubbed against my clitoris and for it to be spanked occasionally. So I was looking for something with a short handle, that would work better than the longer handled ones.
Although this was the perfect size (Apart from the silly wrist strap; that just gets in the way) I wasn’t really able to use this for clitoral play as well, you can’t fully clean it! Clearly I need to get myself a silicone crop for that.It was however perfect to use as a standard crop; the size was great; it again seems quite good quality for the price of it £11.95 (At time of writing this).
The tip is made from faux leather, which has a heart impression cut out of it; behind the impression is a red piece of fabric. The tip itself isn’t very flexible, in fact it’s quite stiff. I found that to make it more flexible I had to bend it back and forth on itself several times – it’s still incredibly stiff, but not nearly as much as it was. I love using riding crops in foreplay, I love the feeling of them being dragged against my skin, however I didn’t get the same feeling with this one as it just felt too hard.
The stem is made from plastic, which honestly isn’t ideal – I can’t put my full force behind it, without fear of the stem breaking in half, the handle is also plastic which is covered in faux leather, at the base of the handle there is a wrist strap. The full length of this crop is 16.3 inches, the handle 6.6 inches, stem 7.4 inches with the tip 2.3 inches long and 2 inches wide.
I HATE this wrist strap it’s so bloody annoying. I’ve never used a wrist strap before; I don’t like them, they just feel uncomfortable; this one especially. It’s made from faux leather which is quite stiff; so if you wear it on your wrist whilst wielding the crop it digs in to your skin. Honestly I was going to cut the wrist strap off, but I like to hang all my crops up, so now I just have to bend it down over the handle when I’m using it. Otherwise it just gets in the way.
In use, the heart crop does deliver a delicious sting, which is great – but I haven’t yet managed to get the heart to stay put. It seems to take several blows to get the heart impression on your skin – so they have to be precise blows to the same location. I’ve managed to get the heart impression there, but it’s usually no longer visible within minutes – which is a shame!
Overall I think both of these items are OK for the price of them, I have my dislikes for them and my likes, but honestly; what more can I ask for at less than £12.00 each? They’re cheap, cheerful and they get the job done. If you’re looking for something that is going to last year’s; then I highly doubt these are the items you’re looking for, but if you just want something to tide you over for now then you can pick both the flogger and riding crop up at Sextoys.co.uk
